Kacey and Dave brought their one year old son, Walter, into the studio for a family portrait session a few weeks ago while they were back in Arkansas for a visit. This sweet family lives in Wisconsin, and I had the pleasure of meeting them when they asked me to photograph their wedding years ago. I’ve been so fortunate to get to know these two through engagements, bridals, and wedding shoots, and I even met up with them last summer in Wisconsin to photograph their maternity session. After so many years of photographing them, their is a comfort and ease in my interactions with them- something that I feel shines through in this family session. We shot a combination of lifestyle family photos, a studio session which included Walter’s first birthday cake smash, then headed over to the park for our final location. I’ve been in my new studio space in Fayetteville for about 2 months now, and finding new ways and setups to use it has been so fun. I love having a space to make nice family portraits without the heat and unpredictability of public spaces. The studio is so comfortable and gives us a chance to make real relaxed images that are more true to life. These kind of images have a way of lasting longer in our hearts- when we can see true unscripted interactions. This is such a sweet stage in a baby’s life, and I’m so thankful this family has let me capture so many of their most important images.
